Mazda wants to add some bite to the Big Apple. The Hiroshima-based company will use the 2005 New York International Automobile Show to reveal the MX-5 3rd Generation Limited, a unique, launch edition of the all-new MX-5 roadster, the next generation of the best selling two-seat, open-top sports car of all time. The show opens to the public on March 25.
The limited edition launch model commemorates The 3rd Generation Limited edition that will be revealed in New York is a sporty model epitomizing the all-new MX-5?s evolved ?lots-of-fun? character and jinba ittai driving attributes, and marks its global sales kickoff, slated for the latter half of 2005. Jinba ittai (pronounced ?gin-buy ee-tai?) is a Japanese expression that literally means ?rider and horse as one? and conveys the harmony felt between car and driver in motion. The limited edition production run will be 3,500 units for global markets, and sales are being synchronized with the start of sales for the all-new MX-5 roadster.
The interior and exterior design of the 3rd Generation Limited features glossy chrome-silver parts as a salient design element, accentuating the feeling of high quality, and evoking the classic and the modern combined in a lightweight, open-top sports car. The inherent dexterity and light, responsive feel of the MX-5 is also expressed in the 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a newly-developed silver finish?a hue created to sparkle like that of a finely crafted Japanese sword. All MX-5 3rd Generation Limited models will come equipped with the 2.0-liter MZR engine and a six-speed manual transmission; each will carry a unique badge stating the sequential production number. Show model has Velocity Red Mica exterior ?exclusive to the limited edition? matched with deep crimson leather seats. Additional colors will be available.
At the annual New York auto show, Mazda will also feature additional versions of the all-new MX-5. Other key Mazda vehicles will be exhibited in its Zoom-Zoom showroom, including the all-new Mazda5 and an upgraded model of the award-winning Mazda6. The New York International Auto Showshow runs from March 23 to April 3. Press days are March 23 and -24.

O Fox vai ser apresentado em Abril no salão de Leipzig onde serão também apresentados o novo Passat e Golf Plus.
Este modelo marca a incursão na Europa de uma gama de veículos de baixo preço que anteriormente servia os mercados Sul Americanos.
Trata-se de um modelo de duas portas e quatro lugares e com alguma versatilidade como os bancos traseiros deslizáveis até 15cm e rebatimento independente de cada banco.
Serão oferecidas 2 motorizações a gasolina 1.2l 55cv e 1.4l 75 cv e uma diesel com 70cv.
O preço estará abaixo dos 10000€ na Alemanha e será lançado no fim de Abril.

O concept Vauxhall Lightning que estava já há muito tempo na wish-list dos britânicos vai finalmente ser produzido pela GM sob a marca Saturn .
O carro foi originalmente desenhado pelo britânico Simon Cox como show car para a comemoração do centenário da Vauxhall mas também na perspectiva de substituir o VX220 (Opel Speedster em Portugal).
O concept Lightning usava uma nova plataforma de tracção traseira designada Kappa e pensada para pequenos carros desportivos. O motor estava em posição frontal ao contrário do VX220. O primeiro carro a fazer uso da plataforma foi o Pontiac Solstice que irá entrar em produção este ano.
O motor será um 4 cilindros de 2.4 litros e 170bhp e vai custar menos de 19000€ nos EUA! No papel parece ser uma alternativa ao MX-5 mas só saberemos isso quando o carro for devidamente testado.
Tudo isto para dizer que não vai ser produzido na Europa. Inicialmente a GM não achou que fosse urgente a introdução do modelo e agora as normas de protecção de peões invalidam o projecto pois obrigam a um redesign do carro.
Há no entanto uma última esperança que se prende com o irmão Solstice que foi homologado antes destas regras serem aplicadas possibilitando a produção do Sky como uma derivação deste. Parece que a GM não está disposta a fazer a conversão do volante para o Reino Unido mas talvez chegue cá…. se bem que 2,4 litros…..

The curtain raiser to yet another thrilling MotoGP season takes place this weekend in Barcelona with the world’s best Grand Prix riders battling for the coveted BMW Award of a brand new BMW 1Series during the showdown hour of ‘qualifying’ on Sunday afternoon at 14.00hrs. Sporting hero and six-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will head the charge of riders as they all vie to have the upper hand of being the quickest man to lap the Barcelona track before the first Grand Prix in Jerez, Spain on April 10th. Lap times from the session will go towards the BMW Best Qualifier Award 2005 which accumulates competitor’s times with the other 17 grid times for the 2005 season. The prize for the least cumulative time taken over the season is a stunning BMW M5 with V10 engine, 507bhp, a 0-100kph time of 4.7 seconds and the world’s first 7-speed SMG Drivelogic gearbox available in a road car. Only after the very last qualifying session of the year at Valencia in November will we know who is the winner of the BMW Best Qualifier Award 2005 and this breath taking thoroughbred sports car.
The BMW Award at the MotoGP Test 2005 is now the ultimate spring board for the 17 race 2005 season as teams, engineers and riders battle to shave the last fractions of a second of lap times, as their off season months of preparations are distilled into the latest prototype 250bhp machines that will hit 345kph / 215mph across the start finish line over the three day test. The ever growing world-wide TV audience will tune in specially during the showdown ‘qualifying hour’ to see who will win the all new BMW 1Series and have the psychological upper hand before the first Grand Prix 3 weeks later.
Loris Capirossi and Valentino Rossi have driven the latest BMW models away from the Montmelo track over the past years. This year, the quickest rider will leave with a BMW 1Series; the only premium car in its segment with rear wheel drive and therefore providing the ultimate driving machine experience.
2005 will continue to see BMW as the Official Car of MotoGP, supplying the recently launched M6 fresh from the Geneva Motor Show and the all new M5, both with the stunning 507bhp V10 engine mounted under the bonnet. The rest of the fleet will be made up of 330i Touring as the Medical Car, a 750i for the Race Director, a 545i Touring for the Safety Officer and X5 4.4i for the Steward.
BMW Motorrad’s premier two-wheeled championship the BoxerCup finished last year in Valencia, but this year sees the starts of the all new seven race BMW Motorrad Power Cup which will further enhance BMW’s involvement within MotoGP. The Power Cup bike will be the brand new naked BMW K 1200 R with a rousing four cylinder 175bhp and a pit-lane weight of 230 kg.

Sportec Cayenne SP600M bate o recorde do mundo.

No dia 10 de Março de 2005 em Papenburg na Alemanha foi batido o recorde do mundo de velocidade para carros de produção (Classe Suv). O Sportec SP600M atingiu a incrível velocidade de 308,45 Km/h no circuito oval do complexo ATP
O recorde anterior pertencia ao Cayenne da Kleemann que tinha atingido em 2003 a marca de 282km/h no circuito de Nardo.
O Sportec Cayenne foi conduzido pelo próprio presidente da companhia Suiça Ueli Hodel. Que se mostrou muito contente com o resultado: “Este teste foi muito importante para nós. Atingimos todos os objectivos que tínhamos para o Cayenne Turbo.”
A responsável pela medição foi a Tag Heur que cronometrou um kilómetro em que a velocidade média foi de 308,2km/h.
